What A Catch!

What A Catch!

What are the things you did as a child that you look back on now with the fondest memories?  When I was a kid we played in the neighborhood until dark each evening.  Tag, catch, skateboards.  Sometimes the boys would include me. Most of the time they didn’t…I joined anyway.  It was my childhood.

I never went fishing as a kid. It just wasn’t my family’s thing.  There is something so special about being out on the water. My daughter, Ella Jay, loves to fish! For her 11th birthday today, we took her on a chartered trip in Ponce Inlet. She was in her element.

Her dream has been to catch a jack fish.  We have tried before with no luck. While she was catching a few other things, I wasn’t sure it would happen today either.

She kept casting.

She kept waiting.

She was ready.

Finally, it happened! She reeled in the coolest jack fish! I will never forget her face! She will never forget this day.

Casting and waiting.  Being ready for what you aren’t even sure will happen. It’s how I believe we get through the tougher seasons in life too.

Cast your cares on the lord and he will sustain you.
Psalm 55:22

Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.
Psalm 27:14

Whatever you are struggling with or answer you are waiting for, keep casting. Keep waiting. At some point, the wait will be over.  You are gonna want to be ready.

I asked Jay how else she thinks she will remember her childhood one day. She said, “walking in the neighborhood with Popo and Papa.  Singing and writing songs with my sister.  Family trips with everyone. Going fishing.  Playing games at night with my family. Playing softball with my friends. Getting the chance to raise kittens. Snuggling with my mom. Playing drums at church. Having adventures with my cousin. Mostly, I will remember laughing so much and knowing that I was loved.”

Knowing that I was loved.

Ella Jay, we pray you always know just how loved you are by your family and a God that has fearfully and wonderfully made you on purpose for a purpose.

Happy 11th birthday, baby girl!

  1. Love this so much, our daughters are just about the same age. Well now that Ella Jay just turned 11 she is a little older then my Aurora. I try so hard to try and make good memories for her. I am a person that always tries to be positive and see the good in ppl and forgive always and I’m afraid she just not like that. She’s moody and mad a lot and I feel no matter how much I do for her she’s never happy. Our situation isn’t perfect she has step parents on both sides. I wish I could say that means there is more ppl to love her but there has always been a custody battle going on. I know life isn’t what she wants and I know how children of divorce think. But if she could just be happy with what she has it would make things so much easier. I don’t know where I’m going with this anymore. But know I have been listening and following you and your family for years now. Your girls are so wonderful. Your such a great momma.
