Don’t Say My Name

Don’t Say My Name

Whether our eyes our open to the reality or not, it’s happening.

Sex trafficking is a massive, worldwide problem that is sadly occurring in our own community. While notoriously underreported, 11,500 situations of human trafficking were reported to the U.S. National Human Trafficking Hotline last year.  Crimes most will never know are happening.

My 11 year old, Ella Jay, and I were honored to have a small part in a powerful new film that brings awareness to human trafficking. It’s called Don’t Say My Name. The big movie premiere was this weekend!

My role, along with my radio co-host, was playing a radio personality.  It wasn’t too much of a stretch! (Although I did put some lipstick on.)

Ella Jay played the heartbreaking role of a victim who, along with other kids, had a terrible end to their lives. It was tough to watch her scene being filmed and my heart was wrecked knowing that this actually happened to another little girl.

Don’t Say My Name tells the story of a human trafficking survivor named Adriana. She was the one that got away.  The one who had a second chance at life.  Adriana was free from her captors, yet still very imprisoned.  She was a slave to her fear.  The horrendous flashbacks.  Her identity.

Maybe you know what it’s like to be a slave to your past.  Living in your own personal prison.

Because of Christ, there was hope for Adriana.   Because of Christ, there is hope for you and me.

Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free.
Psalm 118:5

Are you living in His Freedom?

Do you hide your scars?

There is a line in the movie that rocked me.

“Your story is the key that unlocks someone else’s prison. “

The hurt that you have been through can already help someone else.  Even if you are still grieving through it.  God uses our story to encourage others and remind them they aren’t alone.

It reminds me of this verse.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.
2 Corinthians 1:3–5

So that we may be able…

As we pray for those who are being trafficked and those who are healing from that life, may we also have the courage to share our own stories.

In Him, we are free.

Don’t Say My Name was created as a movement to help put an end to modern day slavery.  The film is still in production. It’s expected to release this fall. I can’t  wait for you to see it! God is breaking chains with this one! You can watch the trailer and donate to help finish the film here.

  1. We will watch. Sammy has done her Senior Graphic design projects on human trafficking and it is just still so unbelievable and horrendous that this can occur in modern day society…”modern”, it just makes it too easy. Praying about this often.
