Being Intentional Easter Week

Being Intentional Easter Week

What is one of your favorite Easter memories? When I was a little girl, my daddy gave me a stuffed animal around Easter.  It was a squishy bunny with a cute dress.  I saw her in our Publix grocery store and he knew I loved her.  The next Easter he got me the matching boy bunny as a surprise.  He was just as cute.  I think about those bunnies at this time every year.  I wish I still had them. I wish even more I still had my daddy here.

As I have grown older I learned more about what Easter really means. I learned that the God who created the universe and made me, sent his one and only son, Jesus, to die for my sins. After being brutally beaten, ridiculed, and wrongly accused, he was crucified and put on display as a criminal for all to see.  After three days in the tomb, he resurrected and is alive today.  His sacrifice for me and you has given us a direct bridge to the Father.  Through him, we are saved. We are forgiven and there is hope.

Here are a few family favorites we will doing this week to celebrate what Christ has done.  We would love for you to join us!

Making Resurrection Rolls

We have done this since my 11 and 13 year old were toddlers!  All you need is marshmallows and crescent rolls. The girls will help me wrap one marshmallow in a roll before putting them in the oven. The marshmallow represents Jesus. When they are done…the tomb is empty. HE is risen. We love retelling the Easter story during this fun time.

Read the Tale of the Three Trees

This book is truly amazing! It shows Easter in a different way and has been a favorite for us.  We re-read this one throughout the year. My kids are excited to read this book to our extended family this year for our get-together.

Reading the Easter story in the Bible

There is no better way to hear the true Easter story than to read it from the Bible.

Here’s where you can find the story in each of the Gospels:

  • Matthew 26-28
  • Mark 14-16
  • Luke 22-24
  • John 13-21

Read a little each night this week. Take turns reading at dinner or even before bed. Make it a new tradition.

Attend an Easter church service

There are many churches open and would love for you to show up on Sunday, alone or with your family. Come as you are.  Many churches, including mine, also have an online option.  I will also be hosting our Easter Sunrise Service on Z88.3 again this year.  Message me or comment if you want to learn more about either.

Hope you enjoy these ideas. Please comment with more!!!

This year I may get my girls a sweet bunny stuffed animal in honor of my daddy.  But I’m also going to remind them of what their Heavenly Father did for them. Because of that…there is hope.

He is Risen! He is risen indeed!
