What Are You Celebrating?

What Are You Celebrating?

This is such a special time of the year as many students will take that walk across the stage to graduate. Pre-K, Kindergarten, high school…they can all be emotional. If you are there with your kids, please know I’m celebrating with you!

This week, my goddaughter graduated from high school.  I sat next to my best friend and her family as we anxiously waited for all of the students to enter the arena for the ceremony. As soon as Pomp and Circumstance started, I teared up. The graduation song always gets me. It signifies accomplishment and a special moment in time. For many students, it means change is coming.  For many parents, it means my baby is growing up.

I was thinking back to my own high school graduation. I don’t remember who the speaker was or what was said.  I do remember feeling glad it was happening. Glad it was over. Looking back on that day now, I wish I knew what a special day it was. It was just something we all did. I didn’t see it as any great accomplishment. I appreciated my goddaughter’s graduation much more than I appreciated my own.

It can be tough to recognize the beauty of the season that you are in!

Life can be so fast-paced. The days turn into weeks and the weeks into years. I thought my kids would always be in diapers and now my heart misses those days. The season we are in now with my kids, has me feeling like an Uber driver many days with theater and softball activities.  But I know soon enough, they will be driving their own cars. I will miss this too. I’m trying to make those car rides intentional with our conversations.  If I’m not careful, I’m gonna miss this rich and beautiful season with my family.

God has something for you right now in this season. He has encouragement for you. God, help us not to miss the moments.  Our schedules become idols. Our activities dictate the flow of our life. Help us to create moments to just be with one another. Moments to reflect on where you have us. Moments to see the milestone moment you are currently creating with our lives.

I’m thankful that I was there to cheer for my sweet goddaughter as she graduated this week. I was actually encouraged by what several of the speakers shared during the ceremony.  I left encouraged.  And so, in case like me you don’t remember what was said at your graduation, here are my parting words to you…

Reach for the stars. Dream big. Trust God. Celebrate where you are today! You are in the middle of a special moment in time that God has created for you. Don’t miss it! The tough times are a part of it. You are not alone.  You are loved!

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6

Feel free to share with a friend! 💕

  1. This is so nice❗️I graduated 49 years ago! I Remember it was so hot at the Cole Field House on the University of Maryland Campus. We had 850? students coming in / we were standing until the last person came in! Several girls were fainting in the intense heat. Our principal told us to sit. We cheered so loudly when the last person came in to sit! Talking about goose bumps!
    Life does have bumps in the road, choosing which fork to take wasn’t easy but God is right there with you even you don’t know it! I have frames of events playing with swift or calm energy! Just matter of peace and contentment with your mind, heart and soul! God is crazy about us all! Thanks, Tyler for triggering a good memory!
