My New Friend, Forky
Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, Little Bo Peep…I have fallen in love with all of the Toy Story characters over the years! Leading up to the release of the new movie, Toy Story 4, I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this new “toy”. It’s a crazy-looking, plastic spork (combination of a fork and spoon), with pipe cleaner arms and glued-on googly eyes.
I had no idea how much I would relate to this silly looking thing! The little girl, Bonnie, makes “Forky” at her orientation for Kindergarten. He was made from scraps out of the trash. He becomes her new favorite possession.
Forky meets Woody and the other toys but keeps trying to jump back into the trash can. It’s where he believes he belongs. It takes the adventures of the movie for him to realize that he is a unique and beautiful creation.
It has been a life long journey for me to fully understand who God, our Creator, is. The One that spoke the heavens and earth into existence, knows me. I often forget that He created me on purpose, for a purpose. It’s so easy to miss that part. We didn’t get to see the love and care that was put into our creation. We didn’t get to see how intentional God was when He crafted our bodies and personalities. We didn’t get to see the delight on His face, like a kid with a brand new creation. I don’t think I will ever fully grasp that.
With faith and trust, I know I need to be reminded that I am His creation. Especially when things feel hopeless.
I do have times when I struggle with feeling like a pile of scraps. My guess is you have been there too…wandering around, maybe even jumping back to the trash, where we think we belong.
The truth is our Creator has a plan for our lives. He delights in the details and has never once left us. He sees you. He knows you. With joy and such meticulous intention, God created your inmost being. He knit you together in your mother’s womb. And as the Creator, He is the only one that can make sense of who you really are. Look to Him and He will guide you. He will remind you that you are unique and beautiful. One of His prized creations.
